A devoted wife to Leroy Banks and the precious mother of Bobby Banks and Sharon Banks-Williams. She was a woman filled with the milk of human kindness and her generosity and noble spirit touched the lives of many. In her Brooklyn community, Jessie Banks was well known for her unyielding fortitude in the face of adversity, her strong sense of perspicacity in personal matters, and an incredible degree of magnanimity in dealing with the complexities of human relationships. At the national level, she was an active member of many organizations that she felt were committed to strengthening the advancement of others. Examples of Jessie Banks’ tutelage include His Excellence, Ambassador Lionel Hurst (U.S.) and Motivational speaker, Les Brown. She worked assiduously with these two young men, as she did with all children in her community, to instill in them the necessity for direction, ambition, and vision for success in life and a love for community service. In the New York tri-state area, Jessie Banks was another “Mother Theresa.” She epitomized all the qualities and nature of the “Good Samaritan.” Jessie Banks’ motto was “If I can help somebody as I pass along, then my living shall not be in vain.” Above all, Jessie Banks was a servant of God! Her legacy and spirit will live on through the works of the Jessie Banks Foundation.
